CAUSE OF DEATH:
During Hakkai and Goku's fight, there's a moment where Hakkai is going berserk. Gojyo steps in and tries to drag him away, and Hakkai responds by spinning about and nearly smashing Gojyo's face in. In canon, he recognized Gojyo at the last second and came back to himself. For his TFS death, Hakkai is unable to break out of his fight-frenzy and he rips Gojyo apart in a few quick movements before continuing his fight with Goku.

Personality: From the intro in the manga:
Gojyo is a lecherous kappa (water youkai). His behavior might seem vulgar and rough at first glance (and it is), but to his friends he's like a dependable older brother. He and Goku are sparring partners, he and Hakkai are best friends, and he and Sanzo are bad friends (ha ha!). Sometimes his love for the ladies gets him into trouble.

Gojyo is easy-going, friendly, incredibly laid back, and much smarter than he appears. He has pretty low self-esteem, but he goes to great lengths to conceal this fact, preferring to talk about somebody else's positive aspects than his own negative ones.

Attention-seeking: Gojyo comes off as a brash, foul-mouthed thug, with no interests in life other than drinking and smoking and flirting and fighting. And he does love all those things! Gojyo is a very tactile person who craves attention, and he’s constantly poking at people and things to get a reaction. He doesn’t really care what kind of reaction it is – fighting is just as good a way to spend an evening as fucking, in his book. Anything that gets other people paying attention to him – he hates being alone, hates being ignored. His stepmother pushed him aside to lavish affection on his older brother, and Gojyo has been looking for ways to get people to pay attention to him ever since.

Sucker: His traumatic childhood also left him with a soft spot for hard-luck cases. He doesn’t stand a chance against needy children and crying women, and will do anything within his power (even to the point of abandoning his friends and responsibilities) to take care of them. He’s a little more wary these days about trusting random little kids when they come to him with their problems, but he will never be able to resist a woman’s tears.

Love: All Gojyo has ever wanted is to be loved. He is loyal to a fault, freely giving out the love and trust that he himself craves, and he will accept all manner of abuse if there is the slightest chance that in the end he will be loved or needed. And, since his childhood messed him up in more ways than one, and sex and affection are the same to him, much of the time the love he offers is physical love. Gojyo is female-preferring, but he will readily flirt with men.

Friendly: Gojyo is everybody's big brother. He is always willing to give of his own time and energy to make somebody else feel better -- especially if that somebody else is a child or a beautiful woman. He's the guy you would want on your side in a fight, and he's the guy you would want to be fighting -- he'd kick your ass, but then he'd laugh it off, give you a hand up, and buy you a beer. He might not always be cheerful, but dark moods pass quickly, and he always seems to manage to have a dirty joke or clever quip to throw out to break up any somber situation.

Loyal: A friend for life. Gojyo goes up against a man with a gun to defend a guy whose name he doesn't even know. He agrees to take the fall for a buddy when he knows that the buddy would never in a million years do the same for him. He leaves his team to go after a god on a suicide mission just because that god hurt a little boy Gojyo had come to care for. ...Okay, so he's kinda dumb, but it's a loyal kind of dumb.

Anger: Gojyo is quick to anger, but just as quick to let it go. (He embodies Sanzo's pet policy of “hold nothing” better than Sanzo does, in a lot of ways.) Little things will draw a large reaction from him - he enjoys making a showy display of himself in all things, because it means that people are paying attention to him -- but it takes a lot to get on his bad side. He's ready to forgive his enemies for just about anything, and will gladly laugh off a conflict or misunderstanding. There are really only three things that he finds unforgivable: hurting children, hurting the helpless, and hurting his team.

Intelligence: He comes off as kinda dumb, and in a lot of ways he is. He's a country boy with no formal schooling, and his speech patterns and behavior mark him as somewhere between a hick and a thug. But Gojyo can be remarkably calculating, when he chooses to be -- years of poker and mahjongg (not to mention all the life-or-death combat) have given him the ability to plan ahead, and bluff when necessary. He'll use these skills to support his escape attempts (and if he comes to think it necessary, he WILL attempt escape).

AS A SHINKI Gojyo is going to exhibit a couple specific personality changes from when he was a god. He won't have any of his memories of being an abused little kid, so his self-esteem is going to be much better. He'll drink less (and probably smoke less, too), exhibit more caution when leaping into dangerous situations, and he'll have lost all interest in leaving Heaven and returning to his old life.

Abilities: As a half-youkai, Gojyo has somewhat better hearing, vision, and strength/stamina than a normal person. It's unclear from canon just how much better his hearing and vision are, but he's shown frequently having conversations on a battlefield, and his weapon is a distant weapon, so he's got to have at least 20/20 vision, if not better. I usually assume 50% better than human-normal here (so nothing game breaking). He can also feel youkai energy (he can tell when a large group of youkai is approaching with malicious intent), but it's not clear from canon how strong this ability of his is. Since he's going to be surrounded by gods and godly beings in heaven, I'm going to assume that his ability to detect approaching enemies is confused by the setting, and therefore not applicable to this game.

For strength and stamina, he's significantly better than 50% human normal. He's basically a low-level shounen hero in a lot of ways. He can punch stone and shatter it without shattering his hand in the process, he's survived being shot numerous times, he can jump over 2m walls and survive long falls... This one time he crushed a dude's skull with his bare hand... He's pretty frikkin' strong. He’s basically on par with the Winter Soldier from the MCU here.

Strengths: Loyal. Sturdy. Clever. Compassionate. Strong.
Weaknesses: Low self-esteem. Tragic backstory. Impulsive. Crass. Lonely.

Why?: He's been a god, and it was great. Now I'd like to explore who he is without his memories.

Villa Dionysus

Dionysus's villa is a beautiful marble and stucco castle perched on a low, perpetually sunny hillside. Outside it's gleaming white, easily visible against the tan and sage surrounding hills. Inside, it's far more luxurious than its current owner is comfortable with. All the floor are cool tile, frequently laid out in mosaics featuring grapevines and wild animals. There are several bedrooms and slightly fewer bathrooms (with marble tubs and columns. So many columns). The dining hall seats at least fifty, with the option either of a vast table or individual couches. The tiny courtyard features a pair of olive trees that are always fruiting, and everywhere the house is designed to channel cool breezes through the lofting hallways.

Downstairs is mostly "business", that is, big dining and meeting rooms, a small winery in the big room in the far back, a gymnasium (with weights and a space set aside for wrestling/sparring), the kitchen. Upstairs are the bedrooms, most of which have their own balconies.

"Asshole", aka Kyoki (Useless Spirit). A soulless shinki who looks remarkably like some jerk Gojyo knew back home when he was alive. Asshole wears a permanent deadpan expression and doesn't have any interests or desires at all. He moves around Gojyo's house like a ghost -- he doesn't talk, doesn't eat, doesn't sleep, and spends most of his time doing basic housekeeping. Visitors might spot him sweeping the main hallway or out in the gardens weeding. Gojyo interacts with him as little as possible.

Asshole's shinki form is a heavy oxtail saber. His shinki power is Bad Luck, which affects the intended target half the time, and affects the caster half the time.

He also has a magical summon weapon, a modified monk's spade called shakujyo. It's about five and a half or six feet long with a mounted spade-shaped blade on one end, and a sickle blade on the other. The sickle blade detaches, and can be thrown and whipped around in crazy loops on a never-ending length of chain. Example image. Second example image. It comes when called, materializing in his left hand. This blade is bonded to him for the rest of his life. NOTE: After talking with the mods, it sounds like he can't have access to this weapon, which it totally cool. If he's selected to be the incarnation of Dionysus, however, would it be possible for him to have a summon weapon in the form of a thrysus, since that's Dionysus's symbol?

God/Shinki: GOD
Why?: IC because he’s never had a chance to be a leader in canon, and this will be a good way to force that kind of growth. Even when he lived alone for a couple years he was only responsible for himself (and then only barely), and I'd really like to explore what he's like when he feels responsible for the memories and well-being of three people he deeply cares about.

OOC because he’s got ~~two~~ three(!) shinki castmates here and having him remember them when they have no memories will be a lot of fun to play with for everyone! (Yes, I’ve gotten approval to do this from my future castmates, in case that was a concern.)

God Type: Chaotic. Gojyo will have a hard time remaining sober (and clothed) and focused on anything other than fun when living as Dionysus. No matter what else he tries to do, the influence of his godly side will keep pulling him back into mindless self-serving (and prayer-serving!) pleasure.
Power: Dissolution of inhibitions. I'd like his power to be about impulse control. Rather than attacking the enemy directly, this power would serve to distract the enemy. Currently the ayakashi seem to be very goal-oriented: they show up and act with a specific task in mind (assuming they have minds, and aren't just being directed). The Dissolution of Inhibitions power would cause them to stop focusing on their given goal and instead turn their attention to other petty tasks. They'd start squabbling with each other, or take a nap, or go wallow in a mud puddle, or dive into the nearest glass of beer, or start grinding on each other... they'd become temporarily obsessed with one of the seven deadly sins, basically. Once he learns more about how to use his power, Gojyo will be able to direct the strength and type of impulse (so he'll be able to make enemies more slothful or vain, rather than more violent).

The duration of this power would be relatively short -- no more than an hour for a single target, no more than a minute or two for a large crowd -- but it could be repeatedly cast. Successive castings are dangerous, however -- As Dionysus's festivals traditionally dissolved into orgies and murder parties, there's a very small chance (I'm thinking of rolling a 20-die) that the target will go into a frenzy. For the first cast there's a 1 in 20 chance of the enemy going into a frenzy, for the second casting there's a 1 in 10, and so on. Frenzy lasts no more than an hour but leaves the enemy exhausted. (I would of course talk with any players against whom this power was going to be used and make sure they were okay with the potential effects ahead of time!)

Dissolution of Inhibitions can be cast anytime. It's not just a combat spell. He could cast gluttony or lust during a party to liven things up, or cast sloth to help a cranky kid go down for naptime. I don't anticipate him using this ability much outside of combat however -- it's just not in his character to force people do act against their will.

God Type: Actively and tenderly tending to his/her worshippers. As Freyja, Gojyo will focus on love requests, both of the “I want to fall in love” and the “help me get revenge on this bastard” varieties.
Power: Illusion, specifically the ability to disguise others (so your army might appear as a field of poppies, the cheating lover might find themselves seeming to wear a donkey head for a few days, etc)

God Type: As Yue Lao, Gojyo won’t be a very attentive god. When prayers are submitted he’ll (eventually) respond, but most of the time he’ll be more worried about dealing with his friends and the world at large than tending to godly responsibilities.
Power: Creation and severing of connections. He can cause two people to (temporarily) fall in love, or he can cause allies to start fighting each other.

1. Lilith's Crossing: If this room's a-rockin'...
He might have taken his own sweet time in accepting his new life as a whore, but Gojyo sure seems to have hit the ground running! He's almost never seen around the manor house anymore without a lady (or two, or occasionally three!) on his arm, heading to or from his room in Lucille's wing. And on those rare occasions when he's by himself, he's usually heading to or from the kitchens to stuff his face with whatever he can scrounge up. All that fucking is hungry work!

2. Eros: Drinkin' for two
There's no shortage of little neighborhood bars in Eros. Hell, you can't hardly go more than two or three blocks without passing one -- just an open door in a brick wall with the windows painted over, and inside it's dim, the air thick with smoke and the reek of old beer. There might be a card game going in the back, and there might be a familiar redhead back there too, but more and more often he's propping up the bar instead. He's got to count every penny now, and his luck's not good enough to risk it all like he used to.

3. Eros: One man's trash...
There's very little trash in Eros. It all gets recycled, cleaned up and repaired and turned into something new. This makes dumpster diving a waste of time, but it does mean that there's plenty of shops selling cracked plates and threadbare clothes to those who can't afford new. Don't even think about trying to buy that patchwork couch -- Gojyo's had his eye on it for a week now, and he's not leaving the shop without it.

Eros: Out on the town
It's another beautiful night in Eros. The stars are gleaming, there's music and lights streaming from a dozen theaters and restaurants, and the upper crust of Eros are out in full force, showing off their evening's arm candy. Maybe it's a formal dinner, with all the men in tuxedos. Maybe it's a costume party, where the dress code isn't quite as concealing. Or maybe it's one of those parties where nobody wears clothes at all. This is Eros, after all.

Gojyo's one and only foray into the world of the internet... ...and it turns into cybersex with Regina

He also meets (for the first time, ah ha) that hottie Yoruichi.

A brief (incomplete) meeting with some blond guy and confirmation that Hakkai was once here..

While hunting down leads to try and find his friends he meets a pretty girl in a park

Then he gets very drunk and picks a fight with Bigby.

October intro party!
Regina's a succubus. Guess what happens next.

Yoruichi's a goddess. Guess what happens next. (I detect a theme here)

On the day of the dead, Gojyo meets Iron Bull, and fails to make a good impression.

Armin and Gojyo talk about how messed up everything is. Literally everything.

But then he finds a candle with Hakkai's name on it, and everything goes to shit. (With Jane.)

He tries to get some answers out of Perdita. It doesn't end well.

Punished with naked+crawling, he runs into Regina and Yoruichi.

A week or so later and the curse has worn off (thank fuck).

Armin has a birthday.

Gojyo gets assigned to some rope play with Zelos, who might be the biggest asshole he's met to date.

Sephiroth, a friend of Regina's, invites Gojyo to Fight Club.

There there was the time Gojyo decided to go swimming and ran into Sir Hellsing

Lucille, in the spirit of total generosity, decides to trade answers for challenges. Gojyo accepts. (Armin, Bigby)

(Handwaved: Lucille's answer is that Goku is both in the house and not, and that if Gojyo wants to find him, he should first find the hidden way into Evelyn's wing. Hint: look at the recent renovations to the wing.)

And then there was the night when the house was invaded by invisible people.

Gojyo finally gets to see Yoruichi fight a little bit.

Hreiðunn event!

On the airship talking with Regina, and then with Perdita.

First night run-in with Sheena the ninja

He spends most of the next day in the library reading up on the Maeve (OOC info post)

Then all the sex happens. Samantha. Sephiroth. Zelos. Jane. Ivy.

Fourthwalling: For the Far Shore I’m going to say no, simply because bringing up his canon (ie, the past) is a Bad Thing for the other three members of his team. If you really really desperately want to tease Gojyo about his role in the classic Journey to the West, that’s fine! Just make sure it doesn’t happen where Sanzo, Hakkai, or Goku can hear about it.
Offensive subjects (elaborate): No topics are off limits. If something you or your character says bothers me, I’ll address it with you when it happens!
